Strengthening Local Capacity to Protect Human Rights

With the support of the Government of France, UN Women launched a program to build the capacities of NGOs and civil society organizations to actively and concretely contribute to the improvement of women’s protection from violence, enhance women’s roles as active players in the community, increase their participation in the decision-making process and raise awareness on the need and the means to end violence against women and abuse of their rights.  Key partners in this initiative include the Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW), the Family Protection Department (FPD) and the National Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) as well as other various stakeholders.

Project Goals:

  1. Develop and strengthen the institutional and human resources capacities of key national players, including NGOs, in combating VAW, promoting women’s rights, and providing assistance to victims of violence.
  2. Develop specific actions to ensure the respect of legal standards to protect the physical and psychological dignity of women detainees, during arrest and detention procedures.
  3. Enhance women’s role in decision-making processes at the local level and develop and support a network of women of elected women at a municipal level.
