Special Representative of the Secretary General on Sexual Violence in Conflict visits Jordan for first time

On the occasion of her first tour in the Middle East, the U.N. Special Representative on Sexual Violence in conflicts – Ms. Zainab Bangura - visited Jordan from 22 to 26 April 2015.  The increased use of rape and sexual attacks as a "tactic of terror” by extremist groups is at the center of Ms. Bangura’s mission in Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey.

UN Women facilitated a number of meetings for Ms. Bangura with representatives of Jordanian and Syrian civil society organizations, national women’s machinaries and the women’s committee of the Women and Girls Oasis in the Za’atari refugee camp.
