Event description

Held under the esteemed patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Basma bint Talal, UN Women and the Royal Film Commission – Jordan (RFC), with Ms. Ghada Saba as the Artistic Director, will launch the 8th edition of the Women’s Film Week (8-13 March 2020) to commemorate International Women’s Day. Since 2012, the initiative offers a unique opportunity for the Jordanian public to see and reflect on women’s issues as portrayed through the work of various national and international filmmakers.

The opening ceremony will take place on 8 March 2020 at 6pm at Al Hussein Cultural Center in Amman in collaboration with the Greater Amman Municipality and Women’s Metropolis. It will feature an inter-generational dialogue on the role of the film industry in promoting women’s empowerment, to be followed by the award ceremony of the media competition ‘I’m Generation Equality’ and the screening of short movies and documentaries.

From 9 to 13 March 2020, public screenings (free entry) will take place at the Rainbow Theater in downtown Amman at 6pm and 8pm. In addition, projections will be held at the Khawarizmi Technical University College, in Taibeh (Karak), and in the refugee camps of Azraq and Za’atari.

This initiative is generously supported by the Embassies of Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Panama, the Republic of Korea, Romania, Spain, Sweden, the United States, as well as the British Council, the Cervantes Institute, and Korea Foundation.

The theme for International Women’s Day (8 March) 2020 is: I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights. The theme is aligned with UN Women’s new multigenerational campaign, Generation Equality, which marks the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
