UN Women organizes a workshop on Gender Responsive Budgeting for members of the House of Representatives under EU funded project

Dead Sea, 17-18 April 2015. Under a project funded by the European Union, the Jordanian National Commission For Women in collaboration with UN Women Jordan organized a workshop for the Members of the House of Representatives on gender responsive budgeting. The meeting was attended by the women’s committee, the finance committee and the legal committee from the House of Representatives. On this occasion, participants reviewed the concept of gender responsive budgeting, considering sector-specific implications in the general budget in terms of allocation gaps for gender equality and women’s empowerment. 

During the workshop, the status of Jordan’s alignment with its international commitments under the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women in relation with gender responsive budgeting were also addressed, reviewing ongoing budgetary initiatives. Participants were also briefed on the monitoring role of Members of the Parliament in ensuring gender mainstreaming in all stages of the development and endorsement of the general budget.
