His Excellency the Director of the Local Development Directorate at the Ministry of Interior, Governor Dr. Mohammad Al-Sarhan, inaugurated, on Tuesday, 13/08/2024, the training course for the Southern Region in Aqaba Governorate entitled “Integrating Gender in Development Plans Prepared at the Local Level.” This course is held in partnership with UN Women and supported by international partners, including the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and the French Development Agency (AFD). It concludes the training program directed at local development cadres in the Ministry’s center and governorates, with previous courses held for the central and northern regions.

This program supports the integrated national efforts regarding gender-responsive budgets through cooperation with national partners such as the General Budget Department, the Jordanian National Commission for Women, and four leading ministries: the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, and the Ministry of Labor. In line with His Excellency the Minister of Interior Mazen Al-Faraya’s directives to qualify and build the capacities of human resources within their functional specialties, these courses aim to enhance the Ministry’s cadres’ skills in gender integration in local development plans. This aligns with the National Strategy for Women, addressing the urgent need to integrate gender to achieve justice, equal opportunities, and well-being for all.

Following these courses, workshops will be organized with local community institutions to gather their inputs on gender-responsive budgets for their governorates, ensuring continued coordination of national efforts and involvement of all concerned parties.
