Nouf is a 28-year-old Jordanian woman who is an Oasis beneficiary at Al-Muwaqqar Centre, funded by the European Union through the Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian crisis, the Madad Fund, and in partnership with the Ministry of Social Development.

In a groundbreaking collaboration, Nokia and UN Women have joined forces to advance global gender equality and women’s empowerment, in line with Agenda 2030 and SDG 5: Achieve gender quality and empower all women and girls.

UN Women JCO organized a visit with NOKIA to introduce the integrated services provided by the Oasis programme. UN Women has established 4 women and girls empowerment and resilience centers in Za'atari and Azraq camps and 18 centres in host communities.

This year, in collaboration with the Royal Film Commission, UN Women opened the doors of its Oasis Centers in the Azraq and Za'atari refugee camps to the 8th edition of the Women’s Film Week. Held under the esteemed patronage of HRH Princess Basma bint Talal – UN Women goodwill ambassador, the initiative offered a unique opportunity to Syrian refugees to learn and be inspired by the stories of women champions from the past, as well as the pioneering efforts of new generations of women’ rights advocates around the world.

The UN Women Jordan Country Office, in partnership with the Nordic Center for Gender in Military Operations (NCGM), organized a study visit for representatives of Jordan’s Security Sector Agencies to Sweden (Stockholm, 22-27 September 2019), in order to share best practices in integrating gender perspectives into security sector’s operations, tactics and strategies.

When 22-year-old social science graduate Haneen Hussen used to dream about starting her own business, she would get excited, then quickly discouraged when remembering the reality of the business landscape in her rural community of Shobak, in western Jordan. Haneen Hussen, a 22-year-old Jordanian social science graduate, has been partnered with a professional mentor through the Mowgli 'Mentoring for Success' programme to kickstart her own business in Shobak, a community which hosts a number of Syrian refugees in Jordan. With the generous support of the European Union Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian crisis, UN Women and Mowgli are providing 200 Syrian and Jordanian women in Jordan with the opportunity to build their confidence and enhance their professional and personal development through mentorship. Enabling women like Haneen to start a business and enhance their resilience to overcome societal, psychological and gender-related hurdles that prevent them from creating and growing sustainable long-term employment.

The United Nations’ gender equality entity puts spotlight on public services, income security, safe spaces and technology to advance progress for women and girls

This year, UN Women Jordan, partners, NGO’s, CSO’s and the Jordanian public joined efforts to inspire social mobilization through a host of public events and activities in the country for the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign under the theme " Speak Up… Harassment is a Crime.” The 16 day campaign commenced on the 25 th November and ran to the 10 th December,  with over 300 dedicated awareness raising activities and related initiatives...

The Minister of Social Development, H.E. Ms. Hala Lattouf, visited one of the three ‘Oasis Center for Resilience and Empowerment of Women and Girls’ operated by UN Women in the Za’atari refugee camp.

On March 21st, 2018, The launch marked the recent implementation of the Jordanian National Plan (JONAP) 2018-2021 to activate UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Security and Peace as a key framework within Jordan. The event marked the commitment of the Prime Minister H.E Dr. Hani Fawzi Al-Mulki, the Jordanian Government's and stakeholder's enhancement of women’s participation in the peace and security sectors within Jordan.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, 61 bell ringing celebrations took place globally from March 5th-13th, UN Women Jordan took part in the 4th Annual Celebration of the "Ring Bell for Gender Equality” initiative hosted by the Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) and IFC Bank Group in partnership with UN Women Jordan.

Former President of Finland, H.E Tarja Halonen toured the UN Women Oasis 2 within the Za'atari refugee camp in Jordan on Tuesday morning, 20th February 2018. The visit enabled Mrs. Halonen to recognize the positive results due to the continued support on a multitude of projects that the Government of Finland provides to UN Women.

Within the framework of the joint program “Realizing Beijing+20 in Jordan: Women in Action!” UNICEF and UN Women held a consultation on the Area of Concern ‘The Girl-Child’ of the Beijing Platform for Action.
